A humanitarian ship that travels the globe bringing medical care and spiritual guidance to the poorest people in the world is now docked at the Port of Gulfport. It will be here for 3 weeks to restock its supplies, refinance and recruit volunteers.
In the past 24 years, millions of people have been helped by Mercy Ships. For most of those people, the Mercy Ship staff are the only medical professionals they will ever see. Surgery removes painful tumors that cause them to be shunned by society, crippled feet and legs are repaired and people blinded by cataracts can see again. Thousands of people in third world nations stand in line for days to receive help.
The work depends of volunteers. Entire families are welcome. There's even a school on board the ship for young children.
The ship is docked at the Port of Gulfport for the next three weeks, and tours are available at the times listed below. A donation of $4 per person or $10 per family is appreciated. For more information call 865-4300 or 871-7055.
