Mississippi lawmakers kicked off their 2002 session today. The session lasts for three months, and will be dominated by talks of a tight budget, tort reform and legislative redistricting.

Lobbyists, legislators and others exchanged hugs and pats on the back as they returned to the elaborate century-old Capitol. Legislative attorneys have drafted hundreds of bills on everything from tightening drunken-driving standards to changing districts from which College Board members are chosen.
