Ocean Springs Teen Killed In Early Morning Car Accident

An Ocean Springs teenager was killed early Sunday morning in an auto accident on Tucker Road in St. Martin.

Daia Drummond, 16, of Ocean Springs died of massive head trauma. Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus says Drummond was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the same car, Christopher North, 18, was taken to Biloxi Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Sgt. Bryan White with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department says Drummond was traveling northbound on Tucker Road about a half mile north of the interstate. She then lost control of her vehicle and entered the path of a van driving southbound. The van struck the drivers' side of Drummond's car.

The driver of the van and two passengers from that vehicle were taken to the Ocean Springs hospital. All received minor injuries. A third vehicle collided with the van from behind. The two occupants of that vehicle were both treated on the scene.

Officials say the weather may have been a factor in the collision, and all the passengers were wearing seatbelts. Officials add that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the collision. That accident is still under investigation.
