Holiday Fatalities Up This Year

The number of holiday traffic fatalities has risen to twelve, including five on New Year's Day.

Shannon police say an Aberdeen man was killed Tuesday when the vehicle he was driving crashed into an overpass support beam in Lee County.

Twenty-six-year-old Timothy L. Howard was killed in the crash at the intersection of U.S. 45 and U.S. 45 Alternate.

In Tippah County, troopers say 22-year-old Nakita Wallace of Ripley was killed Tuesday in a one-vehicle wreck on U.S. 78.

An Arcola teen-ager was killed Tuesday and three other people were injured when their car slammed into a tree and caught fire in Washington County. Fifteen-year-old Cordaryl Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also killed in a separate accident New Year's Day was 55-year-old Beverly Ann Froshour of Brandon. She died in a head-on collision on Mississippi 25. And 20-year-old Roy Anderson was killed in a one-vehicle accident on U-S 51 in Yalobusha County.

The other fatalities happened before New Year's Day.

This year's holiday period was one day longer than last year. Three highway deaths and 119 drunk driving arrests were reported in 2000.
