Justin Reed scored 21 points to lead Mississippi to a 68-58 win over Texas-El Paso in the championship game of the Sierra Providence SunClassic Basketball Tournament on Saturday night. Trailing 29-28 with 17:41 remaining in the second half, Mississippi (9-2) went on a 19-4 run to take a comfortable 47-34 lead with 8:37 left. After Brian Stewart's basket at the 19:46 mark of the second half, UTEP went 14 minutes without scoring from the floor, missing 13 straight shots. Reed, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, was 11-of-12 from the free throw line and scored nine of his points during the Rebels' crucial second-half run. Derrick Allen, Aaron Harper and Emmanuel Wade scored 11 points apiece for the Rebels. Allen, who was also named to the all-tournament team, led the Rebels with nine rebounds. Jason Harrison led Mississippi with six assists. UTEP (5-6) was led by Eugene Costello, who finished with 18 points. Costello, who was UTEP's representative on the all-tournament team, hit all eight of his free throw attempts but was 0-for-7 from beyond 3-point line. Stewart was the only other Miner in double figures with 11 points. The Rebels were 30-of-37 from the free throw line while the Miners were 17-of-22.
