The University of Southern Mississippi is providing grief counselors after the death of Austin Somers, a 21-year-old member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Sunday night, the USM student was found by friends dead in a room of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house. School officials say they believe it was a suicide. However, authorities are still awaiting an autopsy to confirm that.
According to a fraternity's website, Somers is from Wiggins and was previously a student at Stone High School.
Officials say that because Monday is a holiday for university students, only about three people were living in the fraternity house when Somers' body was found. USM's Spring semester starts Tuesday.
Dean of Students Eddie Holloway says they have a whole team of counselors ready to help.
"The university is prepared with counseling services from the university counseling center. They are on call 24 hours a day. They have made overtures to the members that were present last night, as well for those when they return," Holloway said.
