Trace Amount Of Chemical Released At DuPont DeLisle

A trace amount of titanium tetrachloride was released at DuPont's DeLisle plant Monday morning.

Plant officials sounded the alarm, and Harrison County Sheriff's Deputies closed a portion of Kiln-DeLisle Road, which runs in front of the plant. By 10:15 am, the road was reopened to traffic.

Tickle, as the chemical is commonly called, can cause a burning sensation if breathed in.

The incident happened about 9:30 Monday morning, and the all-clear was given about 45 minutes later. Plant Manager Mark Holman says no injuries were reported, and no evacuations were ordered.

An investigation is underway to determine if there was an actual spill, and if so, the size of it.
