Vancleave Deals With Growing Pains

Steady growth in north Jackson County is forcing residents and county leaders to think about public safety along several road ways. Within the last five years, the community of Vancleave has experienced a large growth in population, and is now home to more than six thousand families.

Several intersections along Highway 57 were designed for rural traffic, and are now out dated. Because of that growth, the Department of Transportation has promised two new lights at the intersections of Old River road and Little Bluff roads next year.

Residents say extra traffic lights will help, but the population surge is changing Vancleave's way of life. The population is expected to continue growing in Vancleave. Two new neighborhoods are already under construction.
