New U.S. Attorney

Dunn Lampton has pledged to be diligent in the pursuit of justice as the new U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi. ``When Attorney General Ashcroft interviewed me, he wanted to know three things: if I could be honest, ethical and aggressive,'' Lampton said Monday.

``I will try hard to be all three and run an office that will be ethical in everything we do.'' U.S. District Judge Tom S. Lee administered the oath of office to the 50 year old Lampton during ceremonies in Jackson. Lampton has been on the job for the past three months. Lampton, of McComb, had been district attorney for Lincoln, Pike and Walthall counties since 1976.

Lampton replaces Brad Pigott who was U.S. attorney for six years before leaving in January to go into private law practice.
