Biloxi's Junie Desporte Dies At 59

Junie Desporte loved seafood. He loved golf. And he loved a good cigar. Wednesday, Biloxi lost one of its more colorful characters when the 59-year-old lost his battle with cancer.

Desporte's name was synonymous with east Biloxi's seafood industry. Thursday, a black wreath hung from the Division Street store he co-owned with his brother.

Family members say Biloxi just won't be the same without Junie around.

"Well, he was a character. He always liked cutting up and having fun. He got along with everybody. Everybody liked him," Junie's brother Artie Desporte remembered.

Junie Desporte had a wife, two living children, one granddaughter, and another grandchild on the way. His funeral is Saturday morning at 11 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Biloxi.
