State Goes To 9-0

Michael Gholar, Timmy Bowers and Winsome Frazier each scored 13 points as Mississippi State remained unbeaten with a 104-67 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. The Bulldogs (9-0) had seven players score in double-digits and shot 58 percent (45-for-77) from the game. They are off to their best start since going 10-0 in 1961-62. Kirby Lemons led the Indians (3-4) with 18 points, Brian Lubeck had 13 and Nick Coln 12. Louisiana-Monroe made just 35 percent of its shots and was outrebounded 46-34. Reserve center Lincoln Smith had 12 points and eight rebounds for Mississippi State, which used 13 players. Eleven players scored and the Bulldogs led 49-29 at the half. ``Everyone got a good look at the basket and had a chance to shoot it,'' Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury said. Frazier reached his career-high in scoring in just 13 minutes. Marckell Patterson had 11 points and Guy Gardner and Derrick Zimmerman each scored 10 for the Bulldogs, who play Georgia State Sunday in Atlanta. Zimmerman also had eight of the Bulldogs 31 assists. ``I thought our guys did a great job of sharing the basketball,'' Stansbury said. The game was played in the DeSoto County Civic Center just south of Memphis, about 170 miles northwest from Mississippi State's Starkville campus.
