Gautier Fire Chief Suspended For Three Days

The Gautier Fire Chief has been suspended. City Manger Christy Wheeler says she suspended Chief Mike Gray for three days without pay after a incident back in October.

Wheeler says 17 firefighters were helping build outdoor classrooms at College Park Elementary. Ten of them were off duty, the other seven were still on the clock. She says it was illegal for the Chief to allow "on duty" officers to work at the school on the city's time and dollars.

Wheeler says in order for on duty officer to volunteer or do any projects in the community, it has to first be approved by the city council.

Wheeler said she'll go before the board on Tuesday and ask permission for the project that's already been done.
