ORGANIZERS HOPING FOR BIG TURNOUT FOR SECOND ANNUAL PARADE

Gulfport Boat Parade Set For Saturday Night

Organizers of Gulfport's second annual Bayou Bernard Boat parade are making their final preparations for the event.

The Department of Leisure Services put out bleachers on Friday hoping everyone will come out to Gulfport lake to see large and small boats lit with Christmas cheer.

This is only the second year of the event, but it's already grown in size. Last year, there were only 32 boats. This year, there are 45.

Neighborhoods on Bayou Bernard are joining in on the fun. They'll decorate their houses and judge the best boat decorations.

Organizers say they've wanted to do a boat parade in Gulfport for years.

"Biloxi has theirs, and Pass Christian and Gautier, everybody everyone's got one of these, and Gulfport never has had one," parade organizer Craig Nicholls said. "A bunch of us got together last year and said , 'Gee, why don't we put one on?'."

The Gulfport boat parade starts Saturday night at 6 on Bayou Bernard. Viewing is at the Gulfport Lake and at Sugar Mill Restaurant on Mill Road.
