Gulfport police responded to a shooting complaint at a home on 107 Deanna Street at around 3:40 Saturday morning and found Heather Hanchett, a 23 year old white female from Louisiana lying in the front yard unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot would to the chest.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and the alleged shooter and resident of the home 32 year old Patrick Champagne was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter.

Police gave few other details about the incident, but next door neighbor James Shavers says he heard and saw the couple arguing before hearing the alleged killing shot fired.

Shavers believes Patrick Champagne lived alone in the the house but recalls seeing him with Hanchett on other occasions.

He says police took several boxes of evidence away from the house and vehicle during their investigation.

Patrick Champagne was arrested without incident at the scene and charged with Manslaughter.
