Mississippi Power Gets Small Increase

Mississippi Power Company isn't getting the 9.5% rate increase the company requested. The Mississippi Public Service Commission granted only a 2.23% rate hike. The new rate means the average residential customer will see an increase of about three dollars on their monthly bills.

The P-S-C decision follows a three-day public hearing in November that drew testimony from company representatives and rate hike opponents.

Opponents, including businesses representatives, said the 9.5% increase would deal yet another blow to an already faltering economy.
