Numerous law enforcement agencies joined forces Monday for a major roundup of alleged drug offenders in Forrest and Perry counties. Officials said they expected to make 44 drug-related arrests before the roundup is completed.
Charges against some two dozen people arrested early in the process included charges dealing with the possession, production and sale of controlled substances, said Hattiesburg Police Sgt. Hardy Sims. ``This is the result of a yearlong investigation, Sims said. ``These arrests range from drug runners, who deal every now and then, to a few big-time drug dealers. Its both ends of the spectrum and everything in between.''
Hattiesburg and Petal police, Forrest and Perry County officers as well as various state law enforcement agencies took part in the roundup. Sims said the names of wanted individuals not arrested Monday would be entered into the National Crime Information Center computer where the charges against them would be posted. ``This is all the work of agents making undercover buys within the last year,'' he said. ``All of the agencies that have been involved in this within the last year are involved today in making the arrests.''
