Annexation Battle Continues

The city of Gautier will ask the Mississippi Supreme Court to dismiss a local businessman's challenge to its annexation. A chancery judge last year approved the city's annexation of 23 square miles to the north and west of Gautier.

Brian Britt, who operates the Wilson Inn Bed and Breakfast east of Mississippi 57 near Interstate 10, appealed the decision this week to the state Supreme Court. In a motion filed with the high court, the city argued that Britt was too late with his challenge. The city's attorney, Jerry Mills, says the deadline to appeal the annexation was Monday.

Britt has said he opposes annexation because his inn was listed nationally as being located in Ocean Springs and he is closer to that city than Gautier.
