Governor Wants Help From Uncle Sam

Governor Ronnie Musgrove's request for federal aid has been sent to President Bush three days after severe weather killed five and injured more than 100 in Mississippi. The Federal Emergency Management Agency completed its assessment of damage yesterday in eight Mississippi counties.

FEMA officials toured Madison, DeSoto, Tate, Quitman, Panola, Humphreys, Washington and Bolivar counties on Monday. Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Amy Bissell says state officials expect to hear an answer from the president by the end of the week.

Bissell says FEMA director Joe Allbaugh pledged his support of Musgrove's request.
