Construction On Schedule For Bay Of St. Louis Ferry

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says its Hancock County ferry project is right on schedule.

Friday, crews were securing bumper rails on the Henderson Point landing. Over the next few days, M-DOT will begin constructing boat docks.

The ferry service was scheduled to begin November 1, to help transport drivers from Henderson Point to Hancock County while work continues on the Bay St. Louis Bridge.

Project manager Derrel Wilson says he sees no problem finishing the job on time.

"I would say we're about 70 percent complete. We still have the dolphins to drive, like I said, and the ferry landing on the other side, but this side is mainly complete with this phase of the project," Wilson said.

Hornblower Marine will operate the free vehicle ferry service until the first two lanes of the Bay St. Louis Bridge are complete. M-DOT says that will happen by mid-May of 2007.
