Habitat Hits Another Rebuilding Roadblock In Waveland

Habitat for Humanity lost another battle in Waveland in its effort to build affordable homes for Hurricane Katrina victims.

The Waveland Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Monday night to shoot down a Habitat proposal that would have put 14 people into new homes. Habitat wanted to build the homes on two separate lots on Herlihy Street.

Several residents in the area objected to the Habitat plan because they say the lot sizes don't meet city codes for the number of houses Habitat wanted to put on each lot.

Hancock County Habitat Site Manager Windy McDonald says this decision by the Board of Aldermen doesn't mean Habitat homes won't be built in Waveland, but it will probably be a lot fewer,
