Jackson County Sheriff's Department Gives Away Turkeys

More than 1,000 people will have a happier Thanksgiving thanks to the generosity of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies delivered 30 turkeys to "Our Daily Bread" in Pascagoula Saturday morning. The turkeys will be served at the annual Thanksgiving lunch.

This is the second year the Sheriff's Department has donated turkeys to "Our Daily Bread." With the recent layoffs in the area, donations are needed this year more than ever.

"At one point, we honestly thought that our food donations would severely decrease as our financial has," Daily Bread Coordinator B.J. Broome said. "This helps us to serve and not have to spend what little bit we have in our account."

"We've got to take care of our own," Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said. "There's a lot of homeless people right here in Jackson County. There's a lot of folks here that are needy, and we just want to try to help where we can."

Our Daily Bread will serve lunch on Thanksgiving at noon. Volunteers to help serve and deliver lunches are needed. If you would like to help, please call "Our Daily Bread" at 769-7510.
