Pascagoula Shipbuilder Finishing Work On Two Vessels

Two ships that will help defend the nation in the War on Terror are one step closer to hitting the seas. Northrop Grumman recently launched the Makin Island and the Bertholfin in one week.

The Makin Island, which is a US Navy Multipurpose Assault Ship, will be used to transport and land Marine units, helicopters and amphibious assault vehicles.

The Bertholf is the first of two national security cutters the Pascagoula shipyard is building. The 400 foot long ship is the largest modern vessel in the U S Coast Guard Fleet.

Northrop Grumman is schedule to christen the Bertholf in November.
