Jackson County NAACP Leader Receives Award

The Jackson County Branch of the NAACP and its president received high honors this weekend.

Branch President Curley Clark received the Medgar Wiley Evers Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who make outstanding civil rights contributions.

Clark's pursuit of justice in the Marcus Malone case was one of the reasons cited for the award. Marcus Malone was found dead in the city jail in 1999, after being arrested by three Moss Point police officers for a traffic and drug violation. The three officers were indicted on manslaughter charges earlier this summer.
