Fire At Copa Casino

Copa Casino halted gambling for about an hour Tuesday after a kitchen fire sent smoke through portions of the 503-foot cruise ship. No injuries were reported among the gamblers and crew aboard the vessel, which was docked in Gulfport.

Authorities responding to a 5 a.m. alarm said they arrived to find one side of the ship filled with smoke. Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said the fire started in a cooker and that damage was contained to that area.

Gamblers were allowed back on the ship after firefighters completed their inspections.
