Nissan Plant Is Now One Year In The Making

It's been one year since state leaders announced Nissan was building a $930 million automotive plant in Mississippi.

The two and a half million square foot plant has been under construction in Canton, just north of Jackson, since Nov. 10th of last year. State officials say everything is right on schedule.

"To look where we are now, one year later, and to consider the fact that we are on time for the state's construction activities and that we are within budget speaks well of all of the efforts of the people and various state agencies that have been involved with this project," said Sherry Vance with the Mississippi Development Authority.

The plant is expected to be finished by the summer of 2003.

Nissan has extended the application deadline for jobs at the plant until the end of the year. That leaves less than two months before the cut off date. If you are interested in applying, you can find more information at
