The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is helping to improve the area around Turkey Creek by digging an underground storm-water retention system near the terminal.
Airport Director Bruce Frallic says it will serve two purposes - controlling water around the terminal, and reducing water that goes into nearby Turkey Creek during a major rain storm.
Frallic says the pond is designed to withstand a 100-year rainfall event.
The work should finish in the next six months.
