New Trash Routes Begin September 26 in Ocean Springs

The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen has awarded the city's waste contract to Delta Sanitation of Ocean Springs. Delta Sanitation will assume the trash and recycling collection currently provided by Allied Waste.

Collection days will remain the same until Delta Sanitation's contract with the city commences on Tuesday, September 26, 2006.

"We are looking forward to working with Delta Sanitation of Mississippi," says Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran.  "Both partners live and work in Ocean Springs and have a vested interest to ensure our citizens and businesses receive excellent service."

The City has agreed to accept collection routes proposed by Delta Sanitation, which will operate several trucks each Monday through Friday.  The city has been divided into five sections, of which three are located on the south side of Highway 90 and two are located on the north side of Highway 90.

Delta Sanitation will place door hangers at each residence beginning next week to explain the new collection routes.

They have also ordered new green trash carts, which will be available, as an option, for citizens to purchase in about eight weeks.  Recycling bins will be provided free of charge.

In the meantime, citizens will continue to use present trash carts and recycling bins provided by Allied Waste.

Trash and recycling will be collected on the same day, another added convenience to clients.  Both must be placed at the street by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection.

New routes are as follows:

  • On Mondays, collection will include all areas south of Highway 90 from Highway 57 to and including both sides of Pine Hills Road.
  • On Tuesdays, collection will include all areas south of Highway 90 and west of Pine Hills Road to and including Holcomb Boulevard.
  • On Wednesdays, collection will include all areas south of Highway 90 and west of Holcomb Boulevard to the city limits at Lover's Lane.  All downtown businesses are included on this route.
  • On Thursdays, collection will include all areas north of Highway 90 from the west edge of town to and including both sides of Ocean Springs Road.
  • On Fridays, collection will include all areas north of Highway 90 and east of Ocean Springs Road to the city limits at Highway 57.
