Missing Jury Duty Could Start Costing

"No Show" jurors are becoming a reoccurring problem according to judges and court officials in Jacks

On Monday, almost 50 potential jurors didn't show up at the courthouse or provide any reasons for not appearing. That's why Judge Dale Harkey is ordering everyone that didn't show up for jury duty to explain their actions in court next week.

"The penalties are quite severe," Judge Harkey said. "I think exposure to them is enough to make all of us aware of our responsibilit

Judge Harkey said he understands that jury duty can be an inconvenience for some residents. On Monday, almost 60 people were excused from duty for valid reasons.

The maximum punishment for avoiding jury duty is a $100 fine along with three days in jail.
