Rail Study Approved

The state port at Gulfport has approved plans to hire a consulting firm to conduct a study of the Gulfport-Hattiesburg rail line. The port will pay 493-thousand dollars to R.L. Banks and Associates to study the costs associated with buying and upgrading the 68 miles of railroad from Kansas City Southern.

The consultants will also determine if it's economically feasible for the port or a railroad company to operate the line.
