Debris Removal To Resume In Gulfport

The City of Gulfport has awarded a contract to Necaise Brothers for the continuation of debris removal from eligible, public rights-of-way, or properties within the Katrina surge inundation zone determined by FEMA.

Debris removal contractors will only be responsible for picking up debris from rights-of-way within the Katrina surge inundation zone, which in most cases, includes properties that were flooded during Katrina. Click here to see a comprehensive list of addresses within the inundation zone.

The City is currently not picking up debris outside of the FEMA-designated zones. Citizens in these areas are reminded to dispose of their debris at the nearest legal dump site.

In addition, residents should be aware of the following guidelines determined by FEMA:

  • Concrete slab debris will be picked up from the public rights-of-way for residences and small businesses only in the Katrina surge inundation zone.
  • New right-of-entry (ROE) demolition requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis for the Katrina surge inundation zone only, and must have FEMA approval.  To fill out an ROE, please visit the RW Beck trailer in the parking lot on the corner of 20 th Avenue and Hwy 90.
  • Green debris (trees, stumps, etc.) will not be removed from any private property.  Green debris will only be picked up from rights-of-way within the Katrina surge inundation zone.
  • The final day to place debris curbside for guaranteed removal is January 26, 2007.  The City will notify citizens in the Katrina surge inundation zone prior to the final sweep.

Necaise Brothers will officially begin work Monday, September 11.  For questions concerning debris removal, call (228) 518-1749.
