One Development Voice In Jackson County

Jackson County now has one foundation to oversee the region's economic development efforts. Groups involved in developing the county's economy, supervisors, port commission, Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce and Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce, have signed an agreement that will allow the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation to oversee the efforts.

``We now have one entity managing economic development in Jackson County ... and that is the right thing to do,'' said Terry Carter, president and CEO for the Jackson County chamber. In prior years, the county's economic development efforts were marked by political disputes between county supervisors and the port commission, which until 2000 handled county economic development.
