New Habitat Home Built In Five Days

Habitat for Humanity is closing in on the 200 mark. Evelyn Wells of Bay St. Louis is the proud owner of the 198th Habitat home built on the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina.

The home on Union Street went up in just five days, thanks to teams of volunteers from Americorp, Lowe's and the Arkansas Realtor's Association.

"The 1.2 million members of the National Realtor's Association care about building communities, not just selling homes, but providing affordable housing for all people. And Habitat For Humanity is a great partnership to be able to do that," said Karen Crowson, President of the Arkansas Realtor's Association.

New homeowner Evelyn Wells said this was one of the most exciting days of her life.

"I'm overwhelmed with joy, with love and anticipation. I could go on and on, but finding the right words are a little hard right now, because it's so wonderful. Unless you've been homeless with nothing and then you get something in five days, it is a feeling you can not describe."

Habitat's goal is to build a thousand homes on the Gulf Coast by July of next year. Click here to learn how you can help.
