New Truck Needed To Maintain Jackson County Fire Rating

If Jackson County wants to keep its fire rating of 8, the county will have to buy a ladder truck. Friday, a representative from the Mississippi State Rating Bureau made that recommendation to Jackson County Supervisors.

Many volunteer firefighters from St. Martin attended the meeting. While supervisors didn't make a decision on buying a ladder truck, they say a lower fire rating is important to Jackson County residents.

"With insurance going up, we've got to do something to help alleviate that pain that we're all experiencing in our neighborhoods today,"District 4 Supervisor Frank Leach said.

A new ladder truck is just one of the items the board is considering in the new budget. Supervisors will release details of next year's budget at a public hearing next Thursday night at 6:30 at the Jackson County Courthouse.
