Long Beach To Repair Water/Sewer Lines South Of The Tracks

Long Beach has approved phase one of a plan that will eventually repair damaged water and sewer lines south of the railroad tracks.

According to Mayor Billy Skellie, engineers have come up with a way to replace the blue sewage pipes the city set up after the hurricane with underground sewer pipes.

For people like Ellie Frix, the infrastructure improvements can't come soon enough, because living alongside the blue pipes is getting old.

"Well, it's a pain. We drive over it everyday. It's unsanitary. It's an eyesore," Frix said. "It's a disappointment that they haven't done this already. It's been a year."

The infrastructure improvements will initially be done in east Long Beach. Mayor Skellie said a contract to do the west Long Beach work may be approved at the next aldermen's meeting.
