Local Airline Passengers Heed New Rules With Ease

Since the Transportation Security Administration tightened safety measures on Thursday, some passengers have been in for a real surprise when it comes to what they can carry on board.

Here is just a small sample of what people have had to leave behind before boarding their Sunday flights.

"I think the heightened security is definitely an inconvenience. However, I'm willing to take the steps necessary to, for safety reasons and to be protected," says passenger Nicki Case.

And that's how quite a few passengers here at the Gulfport/ Biloxi International Airport feel.

"It's been going very well. All the passengers have been very cooperative. We've had to change some procedures in our screening activities but everything has been going very well. I think everybody understands this is something that needs to be done," says TSA screening manager Terry Hamilton.

And Hamilton believes that understanding is important, especially as more travelers will crowd the airport as the Labor Day weekend approaches.

But while everything seems to be going smoothly here, the one thing these passengers agree on.

"Just get to the airport a little earlier," says Case.
