Country Music Star Visits Waveland

I met 2 little girls in that tent out there last fall," says a choked up Chely Wright. "And they lost their dad. And they stood in line to get my autograph."

An emotional serenade is what fans of the music singer received this afternoon.

Gulfport resident Russell Forner is a member Wright's fan club. He was in attendance at her last concert in the area, and he's thrilled she decided to come back.

"It means a lot to the people out here that she takes time out of her schedule to come down and help support us," says Forner.

During her last visit to Hancock County, Wright donated musical instruments to the Waveland and Pass Christian school districts.

Fans like Madge Armstrong of Waveland say she uses country music as a way to escape everyday trials.

"It makes you forget the things you gotta do today. The struggles you gotta go through today just to try and get your life back to normal," says Armstrong.

That sense of normalcy is what Wright says makes it all worth while.

"The benefits of it are when people do shake your hand and say we got married to your song or your music helped us get through this," says Wright.

Not only has she lifted the spirits of her fans, but they inspire her as well.

"When I think about the people of Waveland it makes want to pick up my guitar and write a songs. I feel like I have family here in Waveland," says Wright.
