Governor's Recovery Expo Is A Big Hit

Some know what they want. Others know what they don't want. And some are just window shopping. But the qualities they're looking for in their next South Mississippi home are practically unanimous.

"Safety and security since the storm," says Buddy Jenkins, CEO of Safeway Homes in Lexington Mississippi.

And they want it fast.

"Ready or not, here it is," says Liz Martin of Gulfport.

She lost everything to Katrina. But she's more than ready to rebuild, and she says the Recovery Expo is helping her with some tough decisions.

It's nice," says Martin. "There's a lot of things you can go and find out.

But not everyone is rebuilding. Some are just reinforcing for the next big storm. Joan Glisson drove from Mobile, Alabama to learn how to make her home safer and stronger.

"We just need to reinforce and from some of the things we learned about today, how to do that," says Glisson. "How to insulate. How to build a better home."

Maurice Spiers is considering developing his 14 acres of property in Saucier for housing, and he's looking to build better and maybe for something else.

"I'm looking for somebody to give me a free house," says Spiers with a laugh.

A modular home giveaway is one incentive that's bringing out the crowds to the recovery expo. But for most, one stop shopping for the best materials, advice, and assistance to build better, stronger, and safer, is incentive enough.
