A lawsuit against the Humane Society of South Mississippi was unsealed today by a chancery court judge. Seventy two members of the Humane Society filed suit against the group's board of directors. The lawsuit follows months of controversy between some members and directors of the non-profit organization.
Among other things, the eight count suit alleges the board failed to produce certain records for the membership. It alleges the current board was not legally elected. The lawsuit also says the directors failed to hold proper elections. And it accuses board members of abusing their authority. The lawsuit requests a preliminary injunction. The plaintiffs want the current board of directors removed, and a new election held.
