Moss Point Boy Killed In Car Accident

A family on their way to church, where the children were scheduled to be baptized, collided with another car, killing one of the children and injuring two others.

The Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 8:20 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highway 63 and 614 in Jackson County.

Spokesman Joe Gazzo says the three children were not wearing seatbelts. He says the family had stopped at a convenience store across the street from the church and was headed to the church when the accident happened. All three children in the Jeep were ejected from the car.

Cody Bowlen, 10, of Moss Point died at the scene of the accident. Amanda Bowlen, 12, and Cheyenne Folden, 9, were both taken to the hospital. Amanda Bowlen was treated and released. Folden had surgery and was listed in guarded condition Sunday night.

Gazzo says their mother, Ester Tarasenko, failed to yield at the intersection and their car was hit by a car headed south on Highway 63. The driver and passenger in the other car were also injured.
