Small Plane Crashes On The Beach In Waveland

An afternoon flight turned ugly for a Biloxi pilot and his passenger, but the two men were able to walk away from the crash with no serious injuries.

Authorities say the pilot was forced to make a crash landing on the beach in Waveland between Waveland Avenue and Oak Boulevard.

The pilot, a flight student at Keesler Air Force Base, rented a single engine Cessna in Gulfport. Waveland Fire Chief Dave Garcia says the pilot and a friend flew from Gulfport to New Orleans. On their way back, the pilot noticed his fuel gauge was rapidly dropping.

Officials say the pilot was going to land at Stennis International Airport to refuel, but before he could, his engine stalled and he was forced to make an emergency landing narrowly missing a nearby pier.
