Kids Ride In Style To First Day Of School

By bus, by car, and on foot, students arrived for a fresh start at North Bay Elementary School in Biloxi Friday morning.

"We are so looking forward to it," says North Bay Principal Dr. Laurie Pitre. "We're putting all that yucky stuff from last year behind us and starting out fresh and hoping for the best."

And only the best would do for the young residents of Arbor Place Apartments. More than 20 of them were invited to ride in style on their first day back to school.

"They have been so excited about it," says Arbor Place Manager Janelle Santinelli. "We didn't give them much notice. We tried to do it as a surprise, so they didn't know about it 'til yesterday."

The stretch limo ride was the idea of the apartment's management.

"It's exciting, so we want to make it more of a better experience for them, so we decided to take them to school in limousines," says Santinelli. "It's be a prince or princess for a day."

The kids took in all the amenities of luxury limousine service, except one.

"No, the bar is not open," says Santinelli. "I hope not."

But no libations are needed to lift spirits on this ride. It's back to the bus after today, but it's not likely any of them will ever forget this smooth start to their new school year.

"I'm sure that was quite a treat for them," says Dr. Pitre. It's something they'll remember for a long, long time."
