The soft economy forced another coast casino to eliminate jobs. This time, the job cuts were at Casino Magic Biloxi.
Forty people were let go on Friday. Another 20 unfilled jobs were eliminated in what's being called a staff reorganization. That equals about 5 percent of the casino's staff.
According to company executives, streamlining staff positions at Casino Magic Biloxi had nothing to do with the September 11th tragedy. Managers blamed it on a coast economy that started weakening long before the World Trade Center disaster.
This week alone, 400 coast casino workers ended up on unemployment lines.
