Fall Treats - Edible Spiders, Crazy Crunch & Caramel Apples

Edible Spiders

A cute Halloween snack that is fun for kids to make and eat. (Prep Time: approx. 30 minutes.)

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 24 large marshmallows
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. Chow mein noodles
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. Mini candy-coated chocolate pieces

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and butter. Microwave until melted. Stir occasionally until chocolate is smooth. Pour chocolate into a sealable plastic bag and set aside.

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Stick 4 chow mein noodles into each side of marshmallow for legs, and arrange on wax paper.

Using scissors, cut one corner of the bag of melted chocolate. Drizzle over the marshmallow spiders.

Attach 2 candies to each marshmallow for eyes. Chill until chocolate hardens.

Crazy Crunch For Popcorn

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • ½ cup margarine
  • ½ cup light corn syrup (clear)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

In a 1 quart saucepan place sugar, margarine and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil 10-15 minutes or until mixture turns a light caramel color. Remove from heat.

Stir in vanilla. Pour over 2-3 quarts of popcorn; coat well. Spread on buttered wax paper and let set in pieces or can be pressed into cold drink cups to make ball. Store in tightly covered container. Can add salted nuts if desired.

Caramel Apples

  • 1 package of caramels
  • 5 - 7 apples
  • 5 - 7 craft sticks

Wash apples under cool running water. Pat dry with a paper towel. Insert craft stick in the bottom center of each apple.

Unwrap caramels and melt in small saucepan over low heat, stirring to prevent scorching. Remove from heat once caramels are melted. Dip apples in caramel sauce and place on waxed paper to cool.
