New Golf Course Could Be Coming To Jackson County

The demand for golf is quickly becoming one of Jackson County's best tourist attractions. Plans are now in the works to bring another golf course to the area, just one year after a new course opened in Gautier.

Bill Mason, a developer from Houston, wants to build 18 holes around old Fort Bayou in west Jackson County. More than 70 acres of undeveloped land will make up the public course, tentatively called Sweetbay. The course already meets county requirements since the area is zoned as agricultural. Mason wants to incorporate the bayou's natural beauty into the course and maintain many of its wetlands areas.

Several more steps have to take place before a construction can begin near Fort Bayou. If everything goes as planned, the new course could open within two years.
