New Commander Takes Over NMCB-74

A Gulfport Seabee battalion underwent a change at the helm Tuesday. Commander Mark Libonate relinquished his post as the head of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74.

During Libonate's tenure, the 625 members of NMCB-74 were deployed to Iraq. They also took part in disaster relief efforts in Pakistan after the earthquake relief and in Florida after Hurricane Ivan.

The new battalion commander, Craig Prather, said Tuesday that one of his goals is to improve the Seabees' readiness training.
