Gulfport Junior Auxiliary Presents Child Safety Program

Some Gulfport first graders are better prepared to deal with strangers. This Assignment Education report takes us to Harrison Central Elementary.

The Gulfport Junior Auxiliary presented a "Child Lures" program to the first grade classes on Friday. They talked about common ways that child predators often approach kids and gain their confidence.

Several skits helped emphasize the information. One role playing involved a child predator posing as an electric company employee.

"I'm from the power company and we're having trouble with the lines in the neighborhood. I need to come into your house."

The children quickly recognized that they should not let such a person inside their homes.

First graders learned several some simple steps to stay safe and avoid "stranger danger."
