FAA To Buy Or Sound Proof Homes Near Airport In Gulfport

The federal government will pay to sound-proof or buy hundreds of homes near the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

Under the program, the Federal Aviation Administration will spend about $60 million to sound-proof more than 1,000 homes and apartments and purchase 122 homes near the airport.

The program involves replacing doors and windows, adding attic sound insulation, and installing central air conditioning systems.

Homeowners who don't want all that work done can settle for a $3,000 check.
