George County Scare Is False

South Mississippi's first Anthrax's scare came over the weekend in George County when a resident opened a suspicious letter post marked from Hattiesburg. Even though the letter turned out to be a false alarm, the scare shut down the George County court house for four hours.

30 city and county officials got together on Monday to discuss ways to handle the next chemical threat. The county's Civil Defense director gave the group tips on the proper way to handle all unknown chemicals. Sheriff George Miller says the county learned a lot during the weekend scare and will be better prepared if there is a next time.

Since Saturday, the George County sheriff's department has received several phone calls from residents with suspicious letters. So far nothing has tested positive for Anthrax.
