Gulfport Waives Permit Fees, Still Debating Refund Process

Beginning Wednesday June 21, homeowners hoping to rebuild in Gulfport won't have to pay for a building permit.

Tuesday, the City Council also voted unanimously to reduce plan review fees to a flat rate of $100.

Homeowners who paid building fees between August 29, 2005 and June 20, 2006 will qualify for a refund if they can show proof of property ownership and damage, and proof of permit payment. Refunds will be limited to one per homeowner.

Gulfport leaders are currently developing the application process for refunds and will advise residents as soon as forms are available. Waivers and refunds will remain in effect until February 29, 2007, 18 months post-Katrina
