Harrison County got the satellite equipment it requested to stay in contact with the outside world during the next storm, and it didn't cost a thing.
Wednesday, representatives from All Road Communications gave the sheriff three satellite phones. Each phone comes with 500 free minutes of talk time.
The California company made the donation after hearing about how local law enforcement had no working phones or radios when Katrina came ashore.
"It seems there is a lot of money coming out of Washington, but it doesn't necessarily seem to get to the right places in time. So in one step, we can do something small, but hopefully meaningful, to help the people of this county," All Road Communications Executive Chris Hoar said.
